GED is an education board based in the USA. It is an open education system in the USA and around the world. It was established by the Ministry of Education as an autonomous organization. It focuses on those people who want to study but do not manage to attend the school/college.

The program is named as General Education Development Test. The candidate should be at least 17 years old. This course is recognized by all boards in Nepal and around the world. Students have to pass five subjects out of which two of them are languages. The examination is hold by American Center, Kathmandu, Nepal.

NIT is the IGNOU's partner institution (PI-9604) in Nepal launching the distance mode of education through the open university courses in a real sense.
